Moxifloxacin (400 mg) is a broad-spectrum fluoroquinolone antibiotic used to treat a variety of bacterial infections caused by susceptible organisms. It works by inhibiting bacterial DNA gyrase and topoisomerase IV enzymes, preventing bacterial DNA replication and resulting in bacterial cell death. Moxifloxacin is commonly prescribed for respiratory tract infections, sinus infections, skin and soft tissue infections, and certain intra-abdominal infections. It is effective only against bacterial infections and should not be used to treat viral infections such as the common cold or influenza.
